Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) began with classes taught in a Harlem garage in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell, the first African American Principal Dance of the New York City Ballet (during pre-civil rights America), and his mentor, Karel Shook.  During the past 43 years, more than one million dancers, children and audience members have experienced DTH’s programs across the U.S. and around the world.  DTH’s mission is to maintain a world-class dance school that provides opportunity and access to racially diverse young people in classical ballet and the allied arts, to provide arts education and community outreach, and to have a ballet company of African American and racially diverse artists performing demanding and new repertoire.

SEO Scholars is a rigorous, year-round, out-of-school academic program that prepares motivated low-income public high school students to get to and through America’s competitive colleges and universities. There are currently 400 high school students in New York City and San Francisco enrolled in the program, in addition to 212 college students at 91 different schools throughout the country. The program is free for students and has tripled in size since 2006.

The Family Center offers a unique program of social and legal services, including health care and wellness programs, to New Yorkers struggling with a family crisis or loss. Their team combines a keen business sense with a personalized approach, partnering with these families to plan their next steps and long-term solutions. Their trademarks are at-home visits and coordinated support strategies. Many of their clients face a life-threatening illness of a parent or other primary caregiver.
